Second, during small difficulties, whenever the mind turns to surrender, a parallel resistance dismisses it, questioning the need to trouble the Mother with such trifling issues. It is only when the struggle magnifies that I am forced to admit my helplessness and actively seek Her aid. What are these contrary parts that indulge in negativity and resist early surrender, and from which levels of the nature do they arise?
Human beings are a bundle of contraries. All of us carry these contradictory aspects which takes time to be reconciled or bridged. The process of true reconciliation begins by finding the psychic being which automatically widens us and sees the real and unreal defects of others with generosity and compassion. But the critical mind takes almost a perverse pleasure in fault-finding, though most often its assessments are mistaken, as it sees only a small part and not the totality of the person, and often even that small part is distorted by one’s preconceived ideas and preferences. It is usually the physical mind that indulges in this, often in collusion with the vital imaginative mind that adds its own spicy mixtures. After all, who doesn’t have difficulties. As it is said that the world is a mirror and we often see in others the defect hiding right under our skin. To each his own unique challenges.
The lack or the unwillingness to surrender comes from the ego that insists on its own strength and judgements until life experiences teach us that we could be mistaken in our assessments and understanding.
It is to your credit that you have understood it. Most human beings either do not notice this quite common tendency or keep justifying their understanding and responses.
What we need to remember is that when we offer things to the Mother, whether seemingly big or small, She helps us not only in solving the problem but very often look at it differently by changing our perception. She shifts the needle of our consciousness inside so that we start looking at the same thing very differently. We begin to see the problem at its origin within us, often in the way we perceive and react, or its relative value, which the mind was exaggerating, or suddenly a deeper, larger picture begins to appear and we can see the real difficulty. The Mother not only helps us solve the problem but as a Friend, helps us understand it better. She holds us through the process and, in the end, draws us closer to Her, which is the real gain.
Affectionately,
Alok da
