I felt impelled to apply here. I one day saw this post and immediately felt impelled to apply; could that be my inner being’s guidance? Of course, there are risks associated with a startup compared to a big company, where it could shut down. My parents are against me leaving this cushy job and are discouraging me. I recently watched your Making Choices video and you also said how you should take the road less travelled. I also personally feel I will grow as a person if I take up this startup. How do I decide and more importantly, how do I know if this is Mother’s will?
In my life, I have been a person who never takes risks. Recently, I have been trying to work as an offering and praying more and more to Mother that her will should be done. But I also want to ensure my desire is not wearing a cloak in any form.. I feel like if I can’t even take this risk – how in life will I do what it takes to serve the mother when she wants me to . Need your guidance, Alok da.
The Mother’s Will is inbuilt in our system and works as a secret driving force from within. The Gita calls it swabhava and swadharma. This internal push inbuilt within us is the true motive force behind our actions. Following this inner cue gives us inner joy, which helps us remain healthy and happy for a long time. Most of all, work then becomes a play and one can open to the Divine Force so much more easily. On the other hand, when desire and ambition begin to drive us through the lure of an easy job that pays well, we begin to feel inwardly famished. It is not about outer success and failure; it is about doing what the Divine has made us for. That, after all, is true success: to do what we are meant to do.
The question you have to ask yourself is not whether the start-up provides you with sufficient challenge or money, but whether the nature of work involved is in tune with your deepest natural urge, with your innate temperament. If yes, then one should take up the challenge. That is the bottom line, regardless of the profits and losses.
Affectionately,
Alok Da
