AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Alok da, I certainly do not at all have an inclination towards the leftist like ways of protests, anarchy and then using the language of revolutions and what not but I also feel in a warped and distorted sense, all of Sri Aurobindo’s writings in Bande Mataram can be appropriated by them because Sri Aurobindo here talks of the ways of iron chains of beuracracy and their suppression of movements. ⛓️‍💥🌄🫡🪷[…]

All his witty satires on moderates and he doesn’t even shy from the prospects of an absolute red horror and bloodbath if that is what the goddess of liberty demands of men and nations. How to subtly distinguish such writings of Sri Aurobindo from the likes of leftist anarchists who try to employ a similar rhetoric.

That is quite a correct observation. What people forget is that the Sri Aurobindo of Bande Mataram days is the pre-yogic Sri Aurobindo. He himself later withdrew from politics because he realised that India was not ready for what he was here to give. Sri Aurobindo’s writings, especially the early political writings, are often misquoted and used out of context. First of all, the writings of Bande Mataram, Dharma and Karmayogin (and Yugantar) were during his fight against the imperial British Empire. They were not against one’s own people. The purpose of these writings was to awaken the sleeping Indians against the British Empire’s might, not against each other.

And who are these jokers who even dare to compare themselves with any of those freedom fighters who were ready to sacrifice all their self-interest, not for grabbing power but for losing everything for the sake of the country. Where is even a remotest similarity in all this and the abuse-hurling, rabid crowd whose sole agenda is to break India.

I have written another long letter describing my viewpoint in detail. You will find it on the AuroMaa website.

Affectionately

Alok Da
