AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

In answer to my previous question regarding the pull towards ‘Maa’ , you have said this: “To turn to Her is to be sure of reaching the goal. She doesn’t give us a teaching or a method, nor does she expect anything from us to reach the goal. 🙏🏻🌸 […]

She simply carries us towards it, surrounded by Her Grace and Protection. Maa is the mantra given to you for the Path, not just the greatest support on the Way but the greatest power that combines both sweetness and strength, love and wisdom and all the infinite patience and perseverance needed to shape the intended Divine Perfection in us”.

Alok Da, in reference to this, I want to ask: what is my role? Is it to keep the right inner attitude? How do you describe the right inner attitude? And with the pull towards ‘Maa’, I also feel the need to build a career, have the right life partner and take care of my parents. Can you throw light on this context?

What you have to do, what we all need to do, is to open ourselves to The Mother more and more. This is the mantra Sri Aurobindo gave in so many ways once the Mother took charge of the Yoga on the 24th November 1926. In practice, this implies to remember Her inwardly as much and as often as you can, to offer inwardly all you do to Her, which includes work, family, reading, playing, eating, sleeping, all else, as if you are sharing everything with a bosom friend, one nearest and dearest to us. This is the core. Rest develops as one walks along the Path with The Mother in the heart. Here are a few letters of Sri Aurobindo showing us the way.

‘A long time ago, Sri Aurobindo had this reminder, with which you are all quite familiar, put up everywhere in the Ashram: ‘Always behave as if the Mother was looking at you; because she is, indeed, always present.’

This is not some mere sentence, these are not just words, it is a fact. I am very concretely with you, and those with a subtle vision can see me.

Generally speaking, my Force is constantly here at work, constantly changing the psychological elements of your being to put them into new relationships and to make clear to you the diverse facets of your nature so that you may see what must be changed, developed or eliminated.

But besides all this, there is a special personal bond of affection between you and me, between all who have turned towards Sri Aurobindo’s teaching and me—and of course, distance does not count; you may be in France, at the other end of the world, or in Pondicherry, but this bond remains just as real and as living. Each time there is a call, each time I need to know something to send out a force, an inspiration, a protection or whatever else, a sort of message suddenly comes to me, and I do what is needed.’

The Mother is the Path and the goal. To turn towards the Mother is to take the royal road to yoga. Let ‘Remember and Offer’ become your true support, faith your torchlight upon the way and Her Name the pilgrim staff of the journey. Have faith, surrender all your inner and outer difficulties to Her as well as your deepest and highest aspiration and let Her organise your life.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

But then why does The Mother say, “Get rid of violence and you will be free from fear”? In their case, isn’t it the opposite: that violence stems from fear, so fear must be cured to cure violence? I am a little confused here, sorry. 🕊️🌿 […]

Violence and fear are closely interconnected. In psychology we call it anger and fear. Fear (and its cousin depression) stems from anger turned towards oneself. When anger is turned outwards it gives rise to violence. When it (anger) is turned inwards, towards oneself, it takes the form of fear. Basically it is the same energy. We can take a few …

Last night, I had another dream. A person was with me, and there was a snake coiled up asleep; I am not entirely certain, but it seemed to have golden dots on it. The person told me to kill the snake. I asked, “It is sleeping peacefully; what is the point of killing it?” They insisted I kill it anyway. 🐍🐘🦚 […]

es all these dreams and impressions rise because of you are open to the occult and inner dimension. It is a kind of capacity that some have.

The snake in the dream doesn’t seems to be harmful. It is some kind of an energy that….

It is clearer now. I didn’t know that vital love could also be considered great. I have not watched the Odyssey yet. However, after listening to your talk, I watched Troy (2004) out of curiosity. The way the relationships were portrayed felt very vital, except for Hector’s and his wife’s relationship.❤️📖 […]

Ram and Sita, Krishna and Radha or for that matter Arundhati and Vasistha, Anusooya and Atri, even Mandodari the wife of Ravana are unparalleled in the example of ideal love they have placed before us. I am completely in sync with the thought that Indian characters are uncomparable in their spiritual greatness and idealism. …
