It fears the pure divine intolerance
Of that assault of ether and of fire”
Q1 What is “pure divine intolerance”?
Q2 What is the assault of ether and of fire?
Q3 Why does mortality bear it ill, though the eternal is in it too?
Q4 Does mortality possess an independent will or innate intelligence to negate the divine—as it apparently seems to—even though it cannot succeed since the divine has the last call?
Mortality means here beings that are limited and hence subject to mortality. It is here a direct reference to man who lives shackled and bound in its limitations. He treats them as comfort zones. The touch of the Divine is felt like an assault to our normal ordinary way of life. Fire is the power of purification. Ether is the pure spiritual consciousness in its heights. Its demand is to that we step out of our narrow limits, our cocoons of comfort, our fixed ways of life and of thought and feelings, our self centered attitudes. But instead of responding to the touch Divine with gratitude we instead respond by wanting to reinforce our normal human life and the limits within which we live.
The pure Divine intolerance is the wrath of Kali which does not tolerate anything that comes between us and the Divine. It is her love liberating us from all bondages but humanity wants to live in chains, hence it fears the Divine Love that comes to liberate the Divine, the Eternal element within us. Mortal beings have a limited freewill. They can turn it towards the Divine and arrive at true freedom. Or it can resist the Divine because it pulls us out of every limited comfort zones.
Affectionately,
Alok Da
