A marriage that does not fulfil certain basic conditions is not a marriage at all but a forced togetherness for both. Love and mutual respect are fundamental to any relationship, much more so in a marriage where love goes to the extreme of complete trust and self-giving. Of course, if one has a child, it is not easy to separate and perhaps not very wise also given the impact upon the child. The other problem is financial dependence, especially of the woman. It is best if each can pursue their own independent progress, even though staying together for the sake of the child. However, if the woman is earning independently and feels strong enough, then it may be better to just stay apart and keep the goodwill and mutual help than to stay together and quarrel. A healthy mutual space in togetherness is most conducive to a long-lasting relationship.
