The Word has power, the power to create or to destroy. It is because the expressive word is simply a medium or a vehicle to convey certain vibrations, a kind of energy and states of consciousness. Once they enter the human consciousness, this vibrational frequency of sound and the energy within it is released and starts working in the recipient to build the corresponding state of consciousness from which the word has originated. This is the theory of the Mantra through which the Rishis tried to influence and change our inner state of consciousness.
Sri Aurobindo has taken this principle to its highest possibility in Savitri by letting the highest truths manifest through the possible intensity of speech. Poetry is the best medium to do so. That is why mystics and seers used it to express what they experienced. Savitri works along the same lines as a medium to transmit the joint consciousness of Himself and the Mother. Therefore, when read with openness and receptivity, the mantric power of Savitri begins to work within and transform us.
