Breathing exercises of any kind, including the simplest of them, that is deep conscious breathing calms the mind. Purification is a different thing. While a quiet mind is generally free of certain disturbances such as impulsive reactions, its basic nature does not change fundamentally unless one turns the quietude into a greater and higher seeking. As to the specific method, one should take up whatever one has natural faith in. The real key is faith, as the Gita puts it. And if to this we can add The Mother’s Name, then its power becomes limitless. Deep breathing with the Divine Name is always considered as a most powerful preparation for entering into deeper states of concentration.
Affectionately,
