As this mere mental pursuit fades, I recognize that real progress comes through Her Grace alone. However, I wonder if relying entirely on Her doing the work risks turning into spiritual laziness or tamas. How can I continue reading their works as an act of pure devotion and receptivity rather than mental effort, keeping the inner aspiration dynamically alive?
Laziness can set in by reading also if it does not translate into practice. Reading is the first step; work as sewa (service) is the next; love and surrender is the penultimate crown. Work as karmayoga prevents laziness from setting in. Besides, it is not just about reading versus love and surrender. It is about putting into practice what one has read. Surrender itself does not mean absence of effort or letting the will go to sleep. It means willing what the Divine Wills, to be content with what the Divine gives, to align our thoughts, feelings and actions with the Divine. Yes, it eventually leads to a state where effort does not seem like effort because it is being initiated, executed and completed by the Divine. If we take this approach, there is no question of laziness.
Affectionately,
Alok Da
