AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I am confused about my sadhana. I got involved in The Mother’s work, physically also I love it, she also loves me very much, I am feeling that but my problem is that I am not sticking in one way of sadhana. One or two days I do japa of The Mother’s name MAA MAA,it is going very well but after two three days mind suggest, “Sri Aurobindo says it sometimes better to take both name” then my opinion changes I start “Om Sri Aurobindo Mira” then after 3 to 4 days I think Mother I have come here for transformation so whole day I say, “transform me transform others O Sri Aurobindo Mother’s light change all”. Then Suddenly mind says another day, ” Surender surender your thoughts feeling and work”,

Then I started that then Image of Lord or The Mother in heart centre then one day only I can concentrate in heart centre, I am not sticking in one view point or going to last of it, I am changing my theory. Sabse Jada din tak heart centre me presence Raha hai. What can I do? do you tell only one, because you wish it or not but you know it please help

Sadhana is to give oneself to the Divine. It is not a mental method or a technique or a mechanical  process that we do to get a certain result. The Mother is not counting which mantra you are using and how many times you are doing the mantra. She is seeing the purpose for which you are doing things. It is not what you are doing but why you are doing that is important. It is not the mind that can do Sadhana. The mind has to be taught to fall quiet. It is the heart that must be engaged in the yoga. The mantra has to arise in the heart, not chosen by the mind as an intellectual exercise.

Take for instance how does one call one’s physical mother? Different people call in different ways according to the language but what is important is that the word through which you call must connect you with the feeling that you are calling your mother. It is this that is important.

So don’t let the mind torment you with its analysis. It doesn’t matter what phrase you use, one phrase or another or different ones at different times. What is important is that the phrase should arouse in you the feeling that you are calling the Divine Mother. It is the faith and the feeling within that gives the energy to the mantra and not the set of words. If you ask me just calling Maa in whatever language is enough. It contains everything within it.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Is drinking small quantities of alcohol really that bad? Most people I know consume alcohol in some measure. I noticed that the ones who quit it completely face backlash from Society. For example, I heard business people say that you can’t trust a person who doesn’t drink. 🥂💬🍸🎶[…]

It is not a question of good or bad from a moral point of view. But drinking alcohol is certainly harmful for the physical, as well as psychological and I would even say spiritual health. The list of physical problems is too long and generally too well known to elucidate. …

Dada, there is a professor at IISC who is a sadhaka in the sampradaya of Madhvacharya, and he says that, according to him, the way to find your Swadharma is to do what you can persistently despite failure. I want to ask, is this a good way of practically knowing, or is it too reductionist? And according to you, what can be the best practical way for a young child?🧒📚✨🌱

That is one way of looking at it. But a slightly negative and outer way of looking at it. There are plenty of things we do which do not involve success or failure. We do it because we find a natural joy in it. This spontaneous joy …

Probably 4-5 years ago, I had read a book named ‘Immortal Talks’ by an author named Shunya. Last time I checked, the author hadn’t revealed their identity. So the book is about Hanuman and how He imparts the ultimate knowledge to this particular tribe of people every 40 years and the story revolves around it. You can call its genre fiction. As I read that, I felt such a deep connection with Hanuman. 📖🏹🛕🌄🌻[…]

It is not a dream but a real contact with the ever living legendary Hanuman who continues to help the simple hearted devotees upon earth to turn towards dharma.
