The political situation in the early 1900 was a sleeping nation that had forgotten its own strength. It was in a state of tamas, exhausted through centuries of struggle, overpowered by the Asuric Illusion of the British, making it feel small and weak and lowly.
Sri Aurobindo started waking up its soul through Bhavani Bharati and other writings, such as the Durga Strota. He infused the idea of complete independence in her mind through his brilliant soul-stirring writings that reminded us of our own true roots. He stirred the vital and started organising the possibility of even an armed revolt if necessary. When the nation woke up completely to the idea of Purna Swaraj, and having laid down the lines along which it would gain independence, assured by Shri Krishna of the independence, he withdrew for the greater work ahead.
The best works for this subject is Rishabh Chand’s biography of Sri Aurobindo. Recently, another biography by Prof Manoj Das has also been released, which describes the life and times of Sri Aurobindo.ย
