Bali pratha (Animal sacrifice) has lost its meaning and purpose now. It is a crude form of worship for those who worship the Devi with pasubhava. But to the advanced sadhaka the sacrifice demanded by the goddesses is of the ego-self.
One should not let the mind dwell upon the things one wants to get rid of. To think of, believe in, even try ways and means to ward off black magic is to inadvertently strengthen it. Whereas to dwell in the thoughts of God, to have faith in the Divine, to remember Him fondly is the best protection against everything including black magic.
