Even the most material substance aspires because, despite the principle of inertia and unconsciousness, there is yet within the Divine Presence. And since matter itself has emerged from the Divine Substance through a process of self-limitation, there is concealed within it the urge and the possibility of redemption, that is to say, to revert back to the original Divine Substance. This would raise a question as to why the limitation was necessary at all? Well, the answer is that unless the substance became hard and concrete, it would have been impossible to create individualities and multiplicity. The hard, rigid matter resisting every higher influence was needed just as one needs a cover to crystallise different flavors of ice creams. But once the purpose is over, then the cover itself aspires to revert to its original substance. In fact, if there was no such concealed will-to-be in matter or the material vital, there would be no reason to push towards higher and higher forms to embody higher and higher levels of consciousness. Already matter has grown progressive change to adapt and accommodate the new emergent levels of consciousness and the possibilities thereof. It is because of this aspiration within matter.
Of course the material substance itself may not be conscious of the aspiration, as even most human beings are not. But there is something in the depths, in the very heart of the atom, that seeks, like a spark, its parent fire.
The material vital certainly can aspire or feel sublimated under the pressure of the psychic and spiritual influence.
Why does it influence the mind in the process?
Each and every part is interconnected. The part that develops most or is touched by the evolutionary pressure tends to take a lead during the moment and influences the others.
How does this typically manifest in life?
It can manifest in a number of ways, such as an increase in certain materialistic vital tendencies such as food, sex, etc that begin to occupy much of the mind space at first until they later start undergoing a transmuting change, a recrudescence, or even a catharsis before the clearance, much like the working of homeopathy and yoga itself.
