If a person begins chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra with the intention of fulfilling material desires, attaining worldly happiness, or obtaining relief from suffering—
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
—and at that time has no conscious desire for liberation or for attaining the spiritual abode of the Lord, can the inherent spiritual potency of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra purify that person’s material desires and awaken within them a conscious aspiration to attain the Lord’s abode?
Is it possible that, through chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra, some of the practitioner’s material desires may initially be fulfilled, and thereafter the Lord may grant them the intelligence by which a conscious desire to attain His spiritual abode awakens within their heart?
Can the effect of the Mahamantra lead the practitioner to realize that remaining absorbed in the pursuit of material desires is futile or inappropriate, and thereby give rise to a conscious aspiration for attaining the spiritual abode of the Lord?
Yes, it is not only perfectly possible but often happens this way that a person turns to God through the Hare Krishna Mahamantra or any other (after all we cannot limit the Infinite Divine in any way) to satisfy the worldly seekings but ends up after a while seeking God, not for what He can give but for what He is.
Affectionately,
