Though life and generations have moved on and I find myself with few to share these sacred memories with, their presence stays alive within me. Every remembrance is an offering of gratitude across the distance, carrying my love back to them and welcoming their timeless blessings into my life.
I can understand your feelings. But it is always best that we let those who have passed into the Beyond to continue their further journey. The best homage we can pay to them is embodying their highest aspiration and carrying it still further. This was the subtle truth behind the concept of gotra, lineage, represented symbolically in the story of Bhagirath’s tapasya to bring down the Ganges. If our parents could see us, they would be happiest to see us grow, progress, evolve towards our highest divine possibilities. To embody the highest qualities they conceived and live by the great ideals they believed in is the best way to make them happy wherever they may be.
So continue with your readings of the Scriptures that they loved and, in fact, go even a step further towards what is yet left unfinished in their spiritual journey. That is the best tribute, the best gift a child can give to her parents who have passed into the Beyond.
Affectionately,
Alok Da
