AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

From what I’ve understood, the essence of Integral Yoga is complete surrender to the Divine. But I’ve been reading “Living Within” by Dr. AS Dalal, and in that book, the Mother mentions that we have the ability to heal ourselves of physical ailments through various means (opening ourselves to the higher consciousness, bringing in a sense of quietude or peace, or calling on the psychic being). 🙏🏻🌿 […]

My question is: should we be trying to do that when something physical is troubling us, or rather should we accept the physical pains and suffering as a gift of God and not seek to reduce it? Because it seems contradictory if we say we have surrendered completely, but then we’re trying to reduce something which is also Divine (the disease or pain), because ultimately everything is part of creation of Divine. Please show me the correct way of looking at this.

The confusion arises because of a lack of understanding of surrender. Surrender is not inaction or inertia. Rather, even inaction is a choice we make. Inaction, not making choices, means surrendering to nature and the circumstances. But surrender to the Divine Mother means not an inert acceptance of everything but making our choices in alignment with the Divine Mother and Her Will. It means obeying the Divine and not our moods, fancies, thought suggestions, impulses, etc. This is the first thing we must be clear about.

The second thing we must remember is that everything that happens is not a direct expression of the Divine Will. Of course, there is only One Power, the Divine Power, but it gets deflected and distorted by various forces of creation. Though these forces, as indeed everything has emerged from the Divine Mother yet there is a relative degree of freedom in creation to each element to align with or stray away from the direct Divine Impulsion. There is a reason for this relative freedom, but that can be for later.

So essentially, surrender means obeying the Divine Will and not the forces that create illnesses and all kinds of disorder. The Divine Will is always for peace, harmony, joy. The Divine does not want us to be ill or suffer. The Divine Mother wants us to be peaceful and progress in a happy way.

Love,

Alok Da

I thought I had changed my past impure self a little bit; I thought I had become a little better human… but again, something happened and I feel I failed more miserably than before…. I have not changed at all…. I think I am worse… It is heartbreaking to know that I am just the same person as before…. 🌱🌅🙏🏻

The fact that you want to change is itself a sign that you have changed! This is how the change takes place. In the beginning we act almost unconsciously without even feeling the need for change. True progress begins when we become aware that we need to change. Otherwise almost everyone is busy finding faults with others which is such a waste of energy and effort. Good or bad we cannot change others. The only person we need to change is …

I have a question like how to do actual self-giving? Even if we say we are completely surrendered to The Mother, there are still points and situations that show, something in us is still there, holding us back. 💗🙏🏻[…]

Self giving to the Divine is more than selflessness. Selflessness loosens the knot of the ego but still we may not act according to the Divine Will. Bhishma was quite selfless renouncing the throne and serving as a shield to the throne of Hastinapur defending the king regardless of who he was. But he was acting in opposition to the Divine Will. Self giving means to live for the Divine, to make the Divine Service the very motive of all our actions. It means to direct our thoughts to the Divine, to think of the Divine instead of the thousand useless things. With …

Dada, after taking my bath in the morning, I used to pray to Lord Bishnu, Krishna, Shiva, Maa Saraswati and Ganesh ji. So also in evening time for five to ten minutes. It has been continuing for the last several years. I could not avoid it. But Lord and Maa are my Ishta and leading my life accordingly. 🌸🙏🏻

It is true that the sadhana brings full results when all our energies of worship and service, our love and especially faith and surrender are directed through one form, person, personality, deity or guru towards the Divine. But this one-pointedness should not be an act of fear or compulsion. It should be a natural consequence of a growing …
