AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

How might illness lead some people toward spiritual meaning, surrender, or inner transformation while also bringing doubt, anger, or a sense of spiritual disconnection? Or does it spiritually point towards a particular direction? How can realisation be attained through this illness?โ€ ๐Ÿฉบ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Illnesses point towards some weaknesses, weak spot within our constitution that creates enough of an inner disequilibrium to manifest outwardly as symptoms. The weak spot could be something transmitted by the seed of heredity. Or it could be a psychological tendency that one carries within oneself, for example the tendency towards depression which easily develops in people who are prone to look at the dark or negative side of things. Or, for example vanity, pride, ambition that builds a false shell of the ego that makes one feel excessively superior as well extremely sensitive to remarks. There are many other psychological movements that we often take as natural such as greed, fear, suspicion, anger, ambition that can put our nature on an overdrive or attract harmful cosmic forces to drive our engines of life towards disaster.

An illness can serve as a pointer to introspect and reflect upon these shadows and remove them taking help of the Grace. If we can do it sincerely then we can remove the illness from its roots and thereby release the energy locked in petty movements of jealousy, fear etc for higher purposes.

Affectionately,

Alok da

A few months ago, I felt my practice of Integral Yoga had become overly mental and habitualโ€”gathering concepts rather than living the sadhanaโ€”so I stepped away and followed a structured traditional discipline involving mantra-japa. ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ[…]

The sadhana once begun never really stops. Yes one encounters temporary halts, – almost everyone goes through these phases, but that is because we need to assimilate the gains of the sadhana. Often our outer nature may not even recognise. Yet one has received something but more is not coming in either because the container is small …

Dear Alok da, thank youโ€”the lines from Sri Aurobindo in your email helped immensely, and while old holds haven’t entirely left, they feel looser. I find myself happier in solitude, as outer interactions easily muddle my poise, while an intense inner longing to remain anchored to the Mother, Sri Aurobindo, and Sri Krishna continues to grow. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ[…]
