My question: I had taken two health insurance policies (mediclaim and super-top up, from the national insurance company) 5 years ago, and have been renewing them since. Should I stop these policies, as they are meant only for surgeries?
The Mother’s words have not to be understood as words set on stone but as words written by fire. It is true that The Mother was not in favor of surgeries, but this general statement should not be regarded as an absolute dictate against all surgeries. The principle behind this view is that when we do some kind of violence upon the body, it disturbs the harmonious working of the body consciousness. Removing a part does not remove the energy that went into the illness. Besides, surgeries in the forties and fifties was still a crude science and carried high inherent risks. Things are very different today. There is a great degree of development in both surgery and anaesthesia. The operation theatres are kept absolutely clean and post-operative care has improved significantly. Many surgeries have evolved into specific microsurgeries that require minimal cutting and damage. Anaesthesia has also become much more precise and regulated. So while the general truth stands, – and it is something that any good doctor now recognises, that surgeries should be minimised and as far as possible minimal. But it does not mean it cannot or should not be used if life is under threat and there is no other option.
Besides, a lot depends upon the person, his state of consciousness, his opening to the working of higher forces, his innate faith and surrender, readiness to accept the Divine Will whatever it may be. If one is truly in this state of faith and surrender, then probably even the use of medicines and vaccines would be required to a minimum. There are people whom I know, including physicians and surgeons, who never used any allopathic medication for themselves till old age. But they used it for others because this is the Science they knew and no other; they practiced it as Karmayoga, and most importantly, patients were not ready for anything else. Faith is the most important ingredient in healing and most persons today have much more, almost absolute faith, in the modern medical system than in anything else. They may pray to God for extra help, but the mainstay of faith is in the allopathic intervention.ย
So a balance is needed and a judicious use of all methods that mankind is evolving to help improve our material conditions, knowing that none is adequate and none is perfect. It is often a choice between the lesser evil and greater one or between the lesser good and the ultimate one.
As to Insurance, the lesser said the better or as the saying goes, to stay mum is better than to speak. Incidentally, the Mother was not much in favor of insurance either. It anticipates problems and instills fear. Instead of trying to find ways and means of reducing cost of treatment and making it affordable, – and it is not difficult at all, we have brought in insurance to cover cost. It creates a nexus of money feeding on the fear of patients. And as you well know, wherever money becomes an important if not a prime consideration, there things start getting deflected and used and misused by forces of falsehood. But in the present conditions, patients have a choice between going to government hospitals that are overflowing and private hospitals that are expensive. The revival and encouragement of indigenous healing practices is a step taken in the right direction, but the real leap will be to discover and facilitate self-healing processes that The Mother advices most. After all it is Nature that heals and the survival of countless species and of mankind itself much much before modern medicines were discovered is an evidence that stares in the eyes unless we choose to turn blind. Anyways that is a big subject. I was just trying to put things in perspective, though in the larger scheme of things these have only a relatively small value.ย
