Progress has a positive and a negative aspect. On the positive side, progress is to strive for things that are latent but not yet developed in us and which we yet must acquire and develop. It generally refers to the development of certain elements of our personality, capacities of nature, or aspects of character that make us a complete and beautiful human being, noble and refined.
There is a yet higher dimension of progress. It refers to the growth of concentration, aspiration, sincerity, peace and equanimity, and all else that would help us draw nearer to the highest Ideal or goal we have placed before ourselves, the union with the Divine, an embodying of the Divine Perfection in our life and our human instruments through a progressive transformation of nature.
The negative side of progress consists in getting rid of movements that hold us back such as fears, doubts, anger and impatience, depression etc that prevent us from advancing towards perfection.
Affectionately,
